How can I fix cellular issues after iOS 18.4.1 fails to install on my iPhone 12 Pro?

I have been trying to update to 18.4.1 for ?weeks now. Unknown to me, this may now have caused the lack of cellular coverage that suddenly occured today.

I have excluded local outages, swapped sims, checked storage capacity, powered off-on, tried itunes to download/delete the update 18.4.1. I have been reading online communities for hours.

Nothing is working. I have got stuck in the loop of downloading/updating and had to force a re-start several times. Assuming that it is the update that I need to run, to get my cellular coverage back, I can't seem to get the update to download-run-complete. I am thinking I go back to ios v.18.3.? Any suggestions please?

Hey there,

What do you see under Settings > Cellular

Did you have a eSim there before, do you know what an eSim is? Do you know if your phone was using one of those or whether it has a physical sim card inserted into it?

I suspect you had an eSim which was possibly deleted by mistake or something during the upgrade. In which case, you can try enabling airplane mode, leave it on for 15-20 seconds, disable it, restart the phone, and see if it re-registers on the network. I've seen this work before.

Fingers crossed.

Troubleshooting Cellular After an Update:

A. Start Here: If you can't Make or Receive Calls on your iPhone - Apple Support

B. "No Service":

Is "No Service" shown on the top-left corner of your screen? If so, go here to fix that: If you See No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

C. Install a Cellular Update:

It might be prompting you for a cellular update to install. So, go here for that. Update your carrier settings manually on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

D.  Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Thank you.

1) "No service", no it doesn't say that just looks like a wave trying to find coverage.

2) I switched sims and mine worked in another phone, so it can't be the service provider etc, as far as I know!

3) I have re-set network settings

I read somewhere about my MBIE not being recognised potentially, like your mobile's ID - Is that possible?

It's weird that it happened so suddenly and not whilst I was doing the update. I had just made a payment, where this could have triggered something!
