How do I delete duplicate photos in the Photos app?

Navigate. to Photos > Utilities > Duplicates

As muguy says,

Since iOS 18 is so customizable, you may have moved your stuff to a different spot or hidden things you didn't what to see. Check the "Customize & Reorder" menu at the bottom if you don't see Duplicates.

Of course, this is on an iPhone, and you didn't tell us if you were using an iPhone, and iPad, or a Mac. If we guessed wrong, get back to us with more information…

For the last day or two I was successfully deleting duplicates per the reply above. At some point, “Duplicates” was no longer an option in Utilities. It disappeared! So now I can no longer delete duplicate photos. How can I fix this so it works again? I have an imac with m3 chip. Thanks for your help.

Are you saying, if all duplicate-photos have been identified and “Merged”, then the option “Duplicates” needn’t appear in Utilities any more? I can understand that. But...

First I “Merged” all duplicate-photos in my Library as you said. Then I uploaded another batch of photos which include some duplicate-photos. But for this second batch, the options “Duplicates and Merge” have not reappeared in Utilities.

How can I reset Utilities to its original state so I can process the second batch? Thanks.

(According to “About This Mac, etc. I am using Sequoia 15.4.1 and Photos 10.0. on my 24” iMac with M3 chip and 8 GB memory.)

How long has it ben since the second batch? After you upload a new set of photos, they will be compared against each other and the previous photos before the next batch of duplicates is offered for merging.

Hi Mark. You answer is spot on. I didn’t realize Photos needed time to analyze my second batch of photos to see if there were any dups in it. After your answer I checked Photos again and see that it did find dupes in my second batch and it put the “Duplicates” option back in Utilities. Thanks for your help. George

Duplicates should be available not if duplicates have been identified.
