Apple Gift cards can be used for in-store purchases and I recently used one to purchase a new pair of AirPods. What is most important is the seller on Amazon where you are making the purchase. You will find scams on Amazon to purchase Gift Cards and then your only recourse for a resolution is through Amazon, which may not help you at all.
