Playing/Recording Issue Due To Possible Sample Rate Error

Hello,

Logic Pro 10.4.2 running on my Mac Pro Late 2013, 2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5, Sonoma 14.7.4.

One day, this project started to play/record in slow motion, making audio beyond unrecognizable.

I've had this issue before and I remember it had something to do with sample rate randomly/accidentally being changed.

However, this time it won't fix this awful issue, no matter what I do. Just this project. All the others are working fine.

What would you suggest that I do?

Appreciate any help I get in advance.

Thanks.

Mac Pro, macOS 14.7

I have seen a problem like this before in other DAWs and it was because another program created a buffer before the DAW was run and the other buffer was locked. I would try restarting your Mac and making Logic the very first program you run and don't run any other audio apps.

Does that help? If not:

Have you installed any new audio apps? I'd check for an audio daemon being run on start-up by another app and temporarily disable it, restart your Mac again and see if the problem returns.

This is a weird combination of an out-dated Logic version with a modern MacOS on an non-compatible computer model. I would update Logic but backup your old version before updating. You can have both versions in your application folder as long as you rename the old version to something meaningful like Logic-10-4-2. Avoid special characters like dots or comma.

  1. Make sure the Project Temo Mode is set to "Keep Tempo"
  2. Verify your project's sample rate hasn't changed. File > Project Settings > Audio > Sample Rate
  3. Make sure the project sample rate matches with your soundcard.
  4. Does the sample rate of your audio files matches properly with the project?

I've had this issue before and I remember it had something to do with sample rate randomly/accidentally being changed.

This shouldn't happen and never happened to me. There is only one exception, when the famous message "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI" appears, which is caused by cpu overloads most of the time.

However, this time it won't fix this awful issue, no matter what I do. Just this project. All the others are working fine.

Check also the plugins if they are causing overloads. Are they fully compatible?

Disable Flex Time. Bounce the tracks.

Ae you saying the Audio Files are not being located ? I am confused as you were talking about playback issues last time around.

Sometimes having multiple sessions can make things messy especially if you tend to move files around or do not name things properly. Tell me exactly what you are trying to do.

If you can open it, do this: Import data and settings from other Logic Pro for Mac projects - Apple Support

Thanks for your help, EddieGrey.

I'm not sure if they are corrupted because I have 3 versions of this project saved in the same drive with all the other projects which are behaving totally fine.

I'd have loved to import files to a new project but I couldn't find any of them. I've looked everywhere.

So, what else is there that I can try?

Yes. I'm saying I couldn't find any files. I've looked everywhere. As you can see from the pictures.

Yes, I was talking about Playback/Recording Issue and still am. I was not talking about importing files anywhere.

I did move around files a few times and that's probably why, but that's not the issue here.

Once again, I've done this before. I just can't remember how. I know for sure I didn't import anything then.

Any other suggestions?

There are no pictures here mate. I obviously am coming in cold here so I do not know your situation.

Spotlight is helpful when looking for files but will not always find what you need.

Hitting "Cmd+F" can bring up this function and may help as you can search by Folder, Kind, Created date, etc.

I do recommend you save in a couple of different places in the future to avoid issues. Here is what I do:

  1. Save on a separate "Back-Up" Folder. I do this on an external drive.
  2. Save on a separate drive and organize projects by Year. I call this my "Archive"
  3. Back-Up Archive on a 3rd drive.

You could also save on the cloud.

Did you look in this location yet? /Users/yourcomputername/Music/Logic

Precisely, haha. I had to upgrade my Mac Pro to later than macOS 12, as recommended by SSL, because I've got an SSL 18 and UC1 and was constantly losing connection.

I can't update Logic because I don't have a license. When I bought the Mac Pro, Logic was already installed, so I didn't bother paying for it, haha.

1, 2, 3, 4 all checked. Still the same.

Gone through all of my plugins, deleted some, made sure they're compatible. Still the same.

Don't use Flex Time.

What do you mean by "Bounce the tracks"?
