Scrolling broken in IOS 18's PAGES

I'm working on a book manuscript in PAGES on my iPad pro running ios18.

when I try to scroll down several paragraphs or a page or two, the software flips me back to the starting place and disrupts my ability to scroll down... My work around is to insert/delete a character as I go, but that's a pain...

anyone have (solved) this problem of scrolling not working in PAGES??
