How do I hide a single row or column among many

My sheet has dozens of rows many hidden. Can I unhide just one row? The menu only has ‘Unhide all rows’ option

I think you have to Unhide All Rows then select the rows you don't want to show and choose Hide Selected Rows again.

If you often find yourself in this situation then you might consider setting up a filter. That way you can change the value in the cell on that row that is in the filter column you have set up, and only that row will be affected.

I see what you mean and it would easily work if the row I want to unhide is one of a few hidden rows, but I have dozens of hidden rows and only one of them is the target row, ie. the one I want to show. I tested your suggestion in a small sheet with two hidden rows. I unhid all rows, selected one of them and hit the Hide all Rows button and just that row was hidden.

It would take me eons to select all rows I want to hide instead of the one I want to show. I think I will just add a new row that will show and leave the old one hidden. Not as elegant as other solutions, but doable I think.

I appreciate your willingness to help out a fellow tech head. Please hop in if you can think of a better way to do this.

Is there a pattern to which rows you are hiding? If so, then you should be able to hide them with a filter rather than manually.

No pattern at all, LOL. It is a record of personal spending on a monthly basis over the last 18 years. When the mortgage, insurance, car, utilities, etc changed name or location, I merely hid the row and opened up a new one for the new expense. The current question was prompted by a magazine subscription that I had dropped and hidden then changed my mind. I may revisit filters when I set up the 2026 sheet. Thank you again for responding
