Looking for someone to extend an existing Numbers template?

I've tried posting this request on various freelance websites but all the replies seem to be not be working natively in Numbers. Essentially I need assistance in adapting an existing Numbers file that contains multiple graphs and data points. The focus will be on adding and updating yearly sales figures.

File linked below:

Requirements:

- Make Year categories run from 2009 to 2040

- Increase number of Tune categories to 30 (and list as 01, 02 etc. rather than A, B, C)

- Consistency of graphic display colour

- Add Tab showing percentage income change from year to year for each Tune

I'm happy to pay for this (or make a donation to a charity of your choosing).

Many thanks,

Alastair

As you probably have discovered, arranging of data in your document is separate tables, one for each tune, makes it hard to extend and summarize.

Instead you might consider copy-pasting the data into one table with three columns as in this screenshot:

Advantages:

  • Easy to add new tunes and years.
  • Easy to create summary tables and charts by using Pivot Tables and charts based on them.

To create a Pivot Table:

1 - Click in the data table

2 - Choose Arrange > Create Pivot Table > On Current Sheet (or separate sheet if desired)

3 - In the Pivot Options pane at the right drag the fields down into boxes below, something as follows:

Where needed switch to the Filter tab and narrow down the data to a specific tune (or year, etc.)

To create a chart based on a Pivot Table, select all the cells in the table and from the menu choose Insert > Chart > 2D Column. You can option-drag a Pivot Table to clone it and apply a different filter.

Thanks, SG. Unfortunately I failed at the second hurdle in adapting it myself (I've been unable to find a way of dragging the "Year" or "Earnings" from Tune A column into the Pivot Options. As soon as I click on the main table, the Pivot Options disappears...)

As interesting as learning how to do tasks can be, sometimes it's just more efficient if an expert can take care of it.

Hi Alastair,

Are you aware that SGIII is an expert in Numbers?

Please reply with what you did when "As soon as I click on the main table, the Pivot Options disappears...)"

You wrote: "I'm happy to pay for this (or make a donation to a charity of your choosing)." Thank you!

But as you can see from SGIII's reply, we don't ask for any reward except a simple thank you. This is a user-to-user forum where volunteers give freely of their time to help other Apple users.

Good luck with your project.

Regards,

Ian.

To see Pivot Options select the Pivot Table, not the data table on which it is based.

Drag the Year and Earnings from the Fields box in Pivot Options (not the table with the source data) down into the boxes below.

The charm of Pivot Tables is that you do not have to be an expert. You don't have to enter a single formula! You just have to be able to point, click, drag.

And be willing to experiment. A little.

There's a 'Pivot Table Basics' template at File > New in the menu. Also follow the User Manual link I provided.

Good luck! I am sure you can do it! And it will be much quicker than you think.

A week of work and then tried again at the weekend.

Then you must have something to show for it. Could you post screenshots of what you have tried with Pivot Tables?

shift-command-4, select area, release, start new post here and use the mountains-and-moon 'Image insertion' icon beneath the compose window to attach the screenshot from the Desktop.
