Apple Gift Card numbers scraped off after purchase

So disappointed with apple. I recently purchased a $200 apple gift card as my supermarket had a promotion. I checked the card all over for any tampering and it was in perfect condition. Straight after purchase I tried to redeem and it had numbers scraped off. I immediately contacted apple and they were not helpful. I had to send them lots of photos and they said they will get back to me in 10 days. Has anyone ever got money back from apple for tampered cards?
