How are you trying to sort? You should be able to click the column letter at the top above Qty. Available (Sum) and choose Sort Descending or Sort Ascending from the dropdown that appears.

You don't show your Pivot Options but I'm guessing you have dragged two fields into the Rows box, something like this:

That's convenient for certain views of your data, as you can use the disclosure triangles to collapse and expand.

If you need to sort just click in the Bigs data table and create a new Pivot Table (you can have more than one getting data from the same table). In that one just drag the one field, in this case Item. You'll be able to sort the results.

Did you try the example I show in my screenshot? Item in Rows. Quantity in Values.

Remember you can have more than one Pivot Table based on the same data. One won't interfere with the "flow" of another.
