Sum doesn't show the correct value on MacBook Air Numbers app

Hi All,

I have sheet in which if one field is =<50 another field shows a value of 250.

IF E2<= 50; "250", "0", this seems to work, hooray!

However, when the 250 is displayed, it must be summed with the numbers above it. Can anybody let me know why this is not the case?

It shows exactly as intended. Remove the "" from the number. You're entering text, not a number when you indicate the contents between the quotes.

The numeric functions, such as SUM, ignore text even if that text is a "number". You can use the math operators +-*/ on them and they will act like numbers but not the numeric functions. The comparison operators < > => <= may not work properly either if comparing a text "number" to an actual number. For example, "200"<250 is FALSE while 200<250 is TRUE.

If you have not manually set a cell's text justification (left, center, or right), text aligns to the left and numeric data aligns to the right. That's the simple visual clue.
