Thanks, Ben. I did check all you suggested and didn't find anything. My next step was to reconfigure my controller's driver to generic (USB class compliant) and see how it behaved in AUM on my iPad. The same behavior. I did a search and got my answer from AI.
"Here's how to address the issue of your Roland A-49 expression pedal acting as a volume pedal, even after being mapped to a plugin parameter:
1. Understanding MIDI CCs and the Expression Pedal's Default
- The MIDI specification assigns Controller Change (CC) 11 as the standard message for expression pedals.
- The MIDI specification also reserves CC 7 for controlling the main volume of an instrument.
- It's common for expression pedals and devices (like the Roland A-49) to be factory-configured to send or interpret the expression pedal input as MIDI CC 11, which in turn might also be interpreted as volume by certain plugins or within your DAW. This means that, by default, the expression pedal controls expression (as a percentage of volume), which effectively acts as a volume control."
I have re-assigned my Roland EV-5 to CC #21. Now to reconfigure my controller for the Mac driver and test it, though I fully expect it to work properly now.
Thanks for your quick response, Ben! That helped me narrow it down.
The environment in Logic was the only thing I didn't think to check prior to asking for help (besides asking Google... lol).
