i'm just from the store to switch my first magic mouse because it didn't scroll. i got a new one and now this one doesn't scroll either. i've got a macbook air from 2017 with macos 12.
What is the problem?

The current Magic Mouse is not compatible with macOS 12. It requires macOS 15.1 or later. There are known scrolling issues when using it with earlier macOS versions. See the following from Magic Mouse (USB‑C) - White Multi-Touch Surface - Apple

iPad with iPadOS 18.1 or later
Also note that a MacBook Air cannot be upgraded beyond macOS 12. Apple no longer sells earlier models of the Magic Mouse so your options would include possibly finding a used earlier model or use a 3rd party brand mouse.
