Help me choose which Mac Studio to buy

What type of applications will you be running and how much storage have you needed or will need in the future. You can always have a smaller internal drive and off load many files to an external drive. The M4 processor will be faster than the M1 but you may or may not need that depending are your requirements.

If given the choice, I would highly recommend the M4 Max.

The M4 Max is newer, performs faster, has more performance cores and will be supported longer.

If this is your first Mac, then I would recommend attending a free workshop known as Today at Apple. at your local Apple Retail Store.

the M1 does is limited to to HDMI 2.0, supporting directly-connected HDMI display to at most 4K at 60 Hz.

If you go for the M4, you should plan to have an external HD, at least 2TB, the 512GB will fill fast. Both configurations are more than enough for final cut pro.
