Folder closes when I open a document on MacBook Air macOS Sequoia 15.6.1

This is not normal - unless, perhaps, you are using Stage Manager... something that I have no use for at all.

Try turning Stage Manager off - in System Settings->Dock & Desktop:

Not sure if it helps, but the behavior you describe (the enclosing folder closing when a file in it is opened) is what happens by design when you double-click on a file while holding the Option key. Have you modified the keyboard shortcuts?

That will happen if you’re holding the option key when you open the document, but you would notice other strange behaviors if your option key was stuck down

I was facing a similar problem and I solved it in the following way:

1. Go to Finder Settings
2. In the 'General' tab uncheck "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows"

I hope it works.

For some reason, your screenshot starts just below the are where the Stage Manager

is turned or or off.

I am not trying to doubt you, just trying to be absolutely sure it is turned OFF.



(On a sidenote: just press Command-Shift-4 and drag to make a screenshot;

you don't need to take out your phone, and it won't look sideways :-))

Command-Shift-3 takes a shot of the whole screen, and Command-Shift-4 of the region you select (click and drag a rectangle). By default, the screenshots are saved to your Desktop, but you can choose a different location: press Command-Shift-5, click Options, and select the desired location.

It is common to have "Show Floating Thumbnail" activated (in the same Options menu), and to click that thumbnail to make quick edits. When you click Done, the file is automatically saved to the specified location.

What happened when you tried to save?

I prefer Command-Shift-5 to take a screenshot because it gives you an adjustable selection rectangle for accurate control over what you want to screenshot. After adjusting the bounding box, press return to capture the selected area.
