Music app UI issues after macOS Tahoe update

Oh ya wanna scrub the playing track? How dare you wanna know how much time is left in a song? Well You can't!

Unless you move your cursor to the extremely tiny horizontal line on the very bottom of the window. Oh I hope you don't accidentally activate the Dock! Oh and guess how small that tiny line is that you have to perfectly put your cursor over to bring up the time and scrubber?

!!! 4 PIXELS !!!

That is how accurate you now need to be to get your cursor over the play slider in order to:

1. View Time (played, remaining) of the current song
2. Scrub the song.

The is not OK

I've been an avid AM fan and user and this is absolutely the worst thing I've ever seen come out of Cupertino!

Ask your designers to actually use the products they make. Maybe test it first before shipping it out to over 100 million users?

I have noticed in general with Tahoe the UI selection targets seem to have gotten significantly smaller or more precise. It's a very annoying UI. I now have to focus on my interface where before it just worked. This is not an improvement and a significant regression for no apparent reason.

I'm having an issue where, when in album view, I got back from an album to the rest of the library, I'm taken back much higher in the alphabet than where I was. For example, I'll be viewing the tracks on an artist that begins with "T" and click the back button to be brought to artists beginning with "P." Has anyone else experienced this? Any way to fix it?

I'm getting the playlist folders on Music opening and closing by themselves without my asking for it. It makes working with them extra hard.

Also, songs keep playing after I remove them from a smart playlist, which is different from before this update, and not desirable

Shuffle doesn't work on Smart Playlist. I have a "never played" smart list that I like to put on shuffle. It keeps starting alphabetically by artist and won't change. Intel MBP I7 . 750 GB music on external HD. When I quit music it generates an error "music quit unexpectedly"

It is very strange that it crashes so often and that I can not add songs to a playlist without restarting the app... and suddenly a different version of the added song appear.. and albums are split up and to fix it is not as easy as one would expect in 2025... and plays songs from albums that I have not added...

I have a Madonna playlist and it is edited in the playlist by album. And of course because I decide what songs I want to listen to it is quite strange when Apple Music plays the songs I have not included (see photo). And It also insists on playing the first song first and not the one I have chosen. So will this be fixed? Because this is just not what I am paying for. All this happened after the update and I am on a fairly new iMac.

I have been using Audirvāna Studio music integrated mode for several years. This mode lets you use the Music app with Audirvanna. After the OS 26 Tahoe update, Audirvāna says you can no longer control the Music app with third party apps. They say it is an Apple issue. I hope the next OS 26 update will allow third party apps to control the Music app.

Since upgrading to Tahoe, my iTunes has gone crazy. Info bar at the bottom, cannot be moved and its very frustrating. Also, on a lot of the music, I changed starting times. It worked perfectly for years and now, all of a sudden after Tahoe installation, all songs start on 0:00 even thought. the original setting is still in place. I also tried cancelling the start time to reset to eg 0:09. Has anyone been able to fix the issue?

I'm having issues with the Queue. I'll load a number of full albums and then at some point I'll realize that a different album is playing. Upon opening up the queue I'll see that my queued up albums were replaced with random albums that I had already played. Sometimes odd tracks are inserted in an album list of tracks. This happens every three or so days. I find that if I clear everything, history, queue, etc. then it seems to work OK. But it'll happen again in time. I only ever play full albums.

Ok first of all - AlWeir that Liquid Glass delete workaround was brilliant and great for about a week. Latest update (26.1) seems to have removed that...

26.1 did however seem to have fixed the constant playlist folder opening issue. And when I had Liquid Glass disabled I was able to more efficiently fix a lot of my playlist View Options settings. And they are still fixed so that's good.

Even though I don't want to, I can deal with the Liquid Glass/new UI, mainly the asinine placement of the now playing bubble. But my main problem is just playing songs in my library. When playing any song in a playlist, it plays right away like it always did. But when selecting and playing any song from the Songs tab under Library, it just takes forever. Like minutes. It is unbearable and needs to be fixed.

If anyone has any clues on fixing that, or a new Liquid Glass workaround, let us know!!

I know I'm probably the only one that cares about this, but: I like to add all the original artwork to my albums. The covers, center spreads, labels, everything. I know it makes the music files bigger; I don't care. I like having all the art so I can see it when I want. In older versions, I could scroll through the Artwork tab and see dozens of images. With the last couple of updates that ability is now gone, and I can only see about three and a half at most. What was the reason for eliminating this?

So the OS have been updated but the issue persists. Must admit I am disappointed. But the whole OS is such a giant step back in time. Too many bad decisions have been made. It is a very lacklustre experience. I really thought it was a basic thing that a music app plays the song I choose to play and not the one on the top of the list. This is not good enough.

Besides the problems others mention, the most infuriating issue I'm having since getting Tahoe is Music randomly skipping tracks, behaving somewhat like if shuffle is turned on.

Pressing the skip button (keyboard, in menu bar and in app - now at the bottom) is meant to go from one track to the next in the list. It’s jumping all over the place (in my 20K songs!) The obvious thing to check would be “shuffle.” That’s off. It does sometimes play in order, but then suddenly jumps somewhere different.

I do use the ‘play next’ feature, but that’s not the reason here. My entire library has always been sorted by Artist or Album by artist.

I would expect it to skip the unticked / unchecked tracks, of course.

Within a specific search/artist/playlist, using the skip forward button will sometimes play a few/several tracks in order, but then jumps around illogically. Same thing happens playing my own playlists (which are sorted in their own different orders- last played, date added etc.) Sometimes it just starts repeating a single song.

Whatever the chosen sort-by column has been, whether entire library, playlist, or a search, Music/itunes has simply played one track after the next, as they're presented.

I signed in & out, I removed the Library file, then opened Music to rebuild the library. No use. It won’t just play the library, search section or playlists consistently in the order they are showing in the window!

So I found today that keeping shuffle off when playing music from the main full library fixes the issue of songs not starting until after like 2 minutes. Shouldn't have to do that but it is a workaround for now. Shuffle playback works fine in playlists.
