It’s just a setting that probably got reset after the Tahoe upgrade.
Open Finder > Settings > General and make sure “Hard disks” is checked under “Show these items on the desktop.”
Also go to Finder > Settings > Sidebar and check “Hard disks” there too.
Once those are ticked, your drive should pop back up on the desktop and sidebar like before.

Finder menu > Settings > General tab, tick the box to show Hard disks.
Change the same setting on the Sidebar tab, if you like.
Note that the icon has changed, too.

Is it a simply matter of making settings change(?)
Finder>Settings>General
Finder>Settings>Sidebar>Locations
Fixed it in Settings/Desktop & Dock/Desktop & Stage Manager/Show Items (check) On Desktop...

Never mind. I feel stupid. I have multiple icons on my desktop and the drive was not appearing on the left where it normally does. I closed all windows and found it under windows. When I try to move it to the normal position it snaps back to the left. But it seems this issue is resolved for me, since it was never an issue in the first place.
Nope, even when Finder Settings have all items checked for desktop, they still don't show. Just installed Tahoe... No desktop icons for drives. Please advise... They're supposed to be under my clock. Nothing there.

Same here. Mac mini M4 just upgraded and all items mentioned here are checked. I use Luna display to use my 2015 27" 5K iMac as a monitor, but also have monitor connected via HDMI. Drives don't appear on either monitor. Have restarted several times and shut down and restarted. I have also went to all of the settings and unchecked and rechecked them.
I have this same problem and the box is checked, yet no hard drive icon on Desk Top
Get work Guys
Yes, same here. I need to click on desktop to make them visible. But once I click again, they disapear.
This works for me. Thanks
