can't select card when using Apple Pay

I'm in the habit of using Apple Pay for virtually everything these days.

I've noticed a frustrating change since updating to iOS 26.

If I double click the side button to bring up the wallet and Face ID it before presenting the phone to the reader, I can't select a card other than the default.

That means I end up closing it, manually opening the wallet app, selecting the card I want, then double-clicking to authorize it.

I have not yet had the chance to try presenting the phone to the reader without doing anything first to see if it behaves differently.

Am I missing a setting somewhere? I hate to be a whiner, but it's a PITA.
