Bluetooth device type discrepancy between MacBook and iPhone

I am allowed to change the device type on my phone when I connect to a bluetooth device, e.g I can change the device type to speaker or to headset but I am not allowed to change anything on my MacBook. My speakers are showing up as headset on my MacBook but showing up as speakers on my phone. So when I am playing music from my phone, the sound is awesome but when I connect my Mac book the sound is much lower than the phone.
