And, you can change the light temperature afterward in Edit Mode:

Increasing "warmth" (lowering the temperature) can often add a pleasing effect.

Just for reference, and future readers, many third party camera apps permit manual White Balance. Focus, Exposure and WB are locked when the screen is long pressed in some camera apps as well.

And cost extra money. Not that it's hard, but most people don't need it, and this is the camera for most people. And we've seen here problems that people have with just too many buttons.

But it’s good to know that it’s available if you need it or want to experiment. The new Pro interface in iOS 26 Camera app has the Styles adjustments, which have similar effects but uses AI to apply styles differently to different parts of the image. Useful tool, but inconsistent results.

The FotoGear app is free and has WB adjustment, PGYTECH app is free and also has WB adjustments.

It's not possible, but it wouldn't be helpful anyway. Locking the white balance just keeps the color temps from changing in frame of the video so colors don't shift distractingly while recording. One picture is just one frame, so 'locking' the white balance wouldn't do anything- there's no 'shifting' going on in a single photo.

Locking white balance is very useful when taking a batch of photos you want to all look the same. Auto white balance jumps around and makes consecutive images look different
