I have a chart to plot data from a table (a pivot table, in this case, but I don't think that matters).
I can add a title and manually type it in, but I'd like to link it to a cell in the source table.
Can that be done? I don't see anything, but it is such obvious functionality that I assume I'm overlooking something.
As SG already wrote you can not link the chart title to a cell in your source table.
But you could make something that looks like it.
Switch off the title from your chart
Create a new table that has only a single cell, position this small table above your chart
Now write a formula / link in this cell and it will display whatever you want
It is not the most elegant way, but it will do the job.

Chart titles can only be set manually (and perhaps through AppleScript though I haven't looked at that in a while).
Since chart titles typically change infrequently, maybe setting the title manually isn't too much trouble?
