My Apple ID is disabled. What should I do?

My Apple ID has been disabled. I've already appealed, but I forgot the password for the email I registered the ID with. Now I can't check the email or reset the password, and my phone keeps showing the login prompt. What should I do to fix this?

Then you may be out of luck. To remove the account from the phone it would require an Activation Lock removal request, and in most cases you would need to provide the original purchase receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller.

It is not recommended to purchase a device from a second hand store. That is the number one reason why where it may be locked already, or if you forget the password, you will not be able to remove it. Apple does not get involved in any third party sales and their only obligation is to those that have purchased the device from them.

Does this mean my new secondhand phone is useless?

Yes. :-(

Recycle the device if you cannot unlock it; it is useless to you. From the very bottom of Apple Trade In - Apple :

"Does Apple offer recycling?

Yes. Apple Trade In lets you recycle any Apple device (including devices from Apple-owned brands) at any Apple Store and on Apple for free. That includes your batteries and old electronic products as well as free, on-demand packaging recycling for our commercial, education, and institutional customers. When we receive your device, it will be thoroughly inspected to determine if components can be recycled or reused. Whether recycled or reused, all activities relating to the processing of your device will be managed in an environmentally responsible way."
