How do I disable large battery display in Lock Screen on iPhone running iOS 26?

since IOS 26 update there is a large battery status display in the center of the lock screen. How can I turn this display off?

a single forced restart seemed to clear this up (this site didn’t show me all the replies at first)


for reference this lock screen display problem happened to me on iPhone 16 pro max immediately after updating from iOS 17 to 26.0.1, and the battery % shown was not the real %, i think it was stuck at the charge amount at the time of completing the update

i have this issue too — the battery percentage appears as a large opaque central square that covers any notifications that might be present — it makes it impossible to see the latest notification at a glance


but when in Customize mode it doesn’t appear at all; not as an activated widget nor as a widget available in the list of widgets; it seems to be an effect independent of the widgets; i would like to turn it off
