Does HomePod cache audio data on itself or remotely?

Why do I have accrued data on both of my Mac computers that are referencing podcasts I stream every day through my HomePod Mini? Is there no type of RAM built into the HomePod? It's like it uses my iPhone/Mac as a tether point whenever I have audio playing strictly through the HomePod and not on my other devices. I have system evidence of this.
