contactsd slowing down processing with macOS Sonoma 14.7.8

contactsd slowing down processing with macOS Sonoma 14.7.8 ; this feels like a recent issue for me even though there is a thread from 2022 about this. That thread mentioned changing the Gmail account settings to NOT SYNC Contacts. Is that still the "school solution"?
