Normally, every AirTag that’s properly set up in Find My → Items tab should give you the option to place it in Lost Mode when you tap into its details. If that’s missing, it usually points to either a region/account setting issue or a problem with how the AirTag is being recognized by your device.
A couple of things worth checking:
- Region settings – Lost Mode is supported everywhere, but if your device’s region is set incorrectly (Settings → General → Language & Region), it can sometimes affect what features appear.
- Under Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions, make sure you don’t have location or Find My restrictions enabled.
- Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Find My → Find My iPhone. Ensure “Find My network” is enabled, since that ties directly into Lost Mode visibility.
- In some cases, a glitch with the Find My network handshake can cause options not to show. You can try resetting network settings under Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
If all of that looks good, the last step would be to remove the AirTag, sign out of iCloud completely, sign back in, and re-add the AirTag fresh. If Lost Mode is still missing after that, it may point to a deeper iCloud account provisioning issue, in which case contacting Apple Support directly would be the best move—they can check if your account has a backend flag preventing Lost Mode.
