The password needed to make such changes is the login password after an Admin user.

if you do not have an Admin user with a password, create a new Admin user for just this purpose.

The 'Approved Method' for using your Mac without a password is to actually have a password, but to change macOS settings so that password is not required to log in (auto-login).
