iPhone mirroring not working macOS Tahoe

After updating both my MacBook (macOS Tahoe 26.0.1) and my iPhone (iOS 26.0.1), the iPhone mirroring feature stopped working.

When I try to start the mirroring app on my Mac, it immediately shows an error saying it cannot connect to the iPhone, even though both devices are side by side.

Before updating, everything was working fine.

Please note that my system is in Portuguese (Brazil), so the screenshots and error messages appear in Portuguese.

Tried a lot of the suggestions below, but managed to resolve this with the following steps:

On your iPhone:

  • Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset Network Settings

After you've restarted on your Mac:

  • Settings -> Desktop & Dock -> Toggle iPhone Widgets

This last step didn't work, but the toggle showed me a dropdown with two entries for my phone, and an indication that pairing was in progress, so something good was happening. Once complete, the progress indicator goes away, and "iPhone Widgets" should be toggled on

On iPhone:

  • Make sure your screen is now locked and next to your Mac

On Mac:

  • Restart the iPhone Mirroring app, and you should now see a "Continue" button with initial setup instructions

At this point everything was up and running again

Had this happen to me this morning. Was something that happened on my iPhone (not an iOS update or anything else obvious), since I saw the cannot connect / try again dialog box on two MacBook Pros, one on Tahoe and the other on Sequoia (meaning it wasn’t Tahoe, specifically).

A reboot of the iPhone didn’t help, but after rebooting each Mac iPhone Mirroring worked normally on that Mac. Simple solution.

This worked for me: my problem, at first, was not being able to even re-setup the iPhone mirroring app as soon as I opened the app. But after restarting my Mac I was able to re-setup the iPhone mirroring app, but of course that wasn't all: I would do the setup until it said to unlock your phone, then type in the password into my phone, and it would load, nothing, but then I did this ⬆️, and went back to the iPhone mirroring app and it worked perfectly.

I spent 2 hours with advanced support without a solution to the problem of making calls with the phone app to non Apple devices. Just before giving up and reporting this as a bug, the support agent suggested we turn off the Firewall. That solved the problem, but turning off the firewall is not an acceptable solution. Later, I added the phone.app to the list of apps in the firewall options. It now allows me to make and receive calls to land line phones, not just other Apple devices.

I am curious to know if others posting solutions noticed if the phone app was already listed in the Firewall options or if their solutions worked even if the phone app was not listed.
