After updating IPad to IOS 26.01, all safari bookmarks and reading list are now gone. I didn’t know this seems to be a recurring issue with IOS over generations. Anyway, tried restarting iPad, restarting Safari…no joy. I do NOT have iCloud for bookmarks enabled. I assume i could grab bookmarks from another device and reload, if there is no workaround. Thoughts?
MBP = MacBook Pro. In my case, an M2 version. I don't like relying on iCloud for critical items, and risking not being able to get something in a situation where I can't get reliable internet access. So when the IOS update vanished my bookmarks on an iPad, I created an export file on the laptop, emailed the file to the iPad and imported them. A workaround but it went OK.
1) Consider allowing Safari to synchronise with iCloud - as this will ensure that your bookmarks are saved and will remain available independently of your iPad's local storage:
Settings > [Your Name / Apple Account] > iCloud > [Saved to iCloud] See All > Safari - set to ON
If you also enable Safari in iCloud for your Mac, all your Safari bookmarks and browsing history will be synchronised between your Mac and iPad.
2) Consider enabling iCloud backup for your iPad. This will provide an automatic backup of data and files that are only stored on your iPad. If the unexpected should occur, you can restore the backup to your iPad:

Rather than diagnose some issue with IOS update, I just exported all bookmarks from a MBP, and iPad now showing bookmarks correctly. If they disappear again, I will update this.
