since you are using Tahoe, then apparently when you click the ellipsis at the top of the bookmarks sidebar, the third option down is "Show Folders on Top", which is checked by default. This option apparently removes the ability to move bookmarks around via drag-drop. when removing this checkmark, you should be able to re-order bookmarks as before. Clearing it also lets you leave a bookmark folder open to display the contents along with other bookmarks in different folders.

When folders is checkmarked you can sort by different choices. But this doesn't effect the order other than in edit mode. The order when selecting in favorites is still the same. Didn't change for me after restarting Safari 26.1. A useless feature so far...

How do I do this within Sequoia? Folders are on top (not what I want) and I cannot move bookmarks. Very frustrating is Safari 26 bookmarks sidebar.
you have a couple options.
the first option, you can lay a new sequoia install over the old one without completely erasing and reinstalling sequoia. afterwards, you will have sequoia with safari 18.6.
and the other option, you may want to look at 6x6's reply in this discussion. if you are comfortable using terminal, their suggestion fixes things for those of us on sequoia with safari 26.0.1.

my Mac cannot upgrade to Tahoe, so I can only say, apparently yes. from other discussions that I have read here it appears that you will have more options in safari 26.0.1 when running Tahoe.
Upgraded to Tahoe and now when opening view bookmarks I can arrange them alphabetically. However, when opening "edit bookmarks" it reverts to the previous style and cannot arrange it alphabetically in the editing mode. It makes it difficult to edit them because the bookmarks are scattered. I tried to select all, but it does not work to arrange it alphabetically in the edit mode. How can we fix this error?

Oh, and there is no ellipsis.
thanks all for the tips, suggestions. I am afraid I am too lazy to get into those and so am accommodating myself to what I have. BUT... if I upgraded to TAHOE will I have more flexibility?
