Touch Bar not working after macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 update

I also have a 2020 M1 MBP running 26.0.1 and my touch bar went totally blank today.

Here's what finally worked for me:

• Shut down mac completely
• Hold down power button until it starts, keep holding until "loading startup options" appears
• Select Disk Utility and run First Aid on the Macintosh HD (in my case it came up clean)
• Restart, log in as normal

At that point it started working again, showing the default app-specific stuff which I hate, but at least it wasn't blank. And then it showed up under System Settings, Keyboard, Touch Bar Settings...

I'm not sure if the reboot into Recovery and running of First Aid made any difference, but it certainly can't hurt.

This gave me the touchbar back:

• If Touchbar is still not recovered run the following in terminal: "sudo pkill TouchBarServer; sudo pkill ControlStrip"
• Restart (remove the tick on "Reopen window when logging in")

Hello everyone. In my case, I was able to fix the issue by quitting the TouchBarServer process in Activity Monitor and then restarting my MBP.

Was able to fix mine by quitting TouchBarServer from Activity Monitor, rebooting and running First Aid from recovery.

The problem is fixed after the 26.2 update :-)

Fortunately for me, a simple Shut Down and restart solved the issue. Touch bar works and System Settings shows the appropriate options.

Mine came back after shutting down and restarting. I didn't do anything else.

Complete shutdown and then restart.

I got the Touch Bar back on my Macbook M1 with:

1. Open Terminal from Applications > Utilities.
2. Type the following command and press Enter: sudo pkill TouchBarServer.
3. Enter your administrator password if prompted, then press Enter.

Then restarting the Mac.

That's all.

Change Touch Bar settings on Mac - Apple Support

I got my Touch Bar back. I’m not sure what fixed it, since I tried resetting the Touch Bar server using Terminal, restarting, and powering off the Mac. But when I turned it back on, the Touch Bar was working again, and now I can see the options in Settings.

I got the bar back a few days ago, but it disappeared again today. I can't kill processes because there are no touch bar processes running. Restarting and doing a disk utility fix works for a while, then the bar simply stops working after a restart.

On my 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with the same issue, I didn't even have to restart; as soon as I "force kill"'d the process, it restarted itself and the Touch Bar came alive!

It says "To change these settings, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Keyboard  in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then click Touch Bar Settings.".... I don't see any section for the touch bar settings. Even when I search for "touch bar" in settings, I get a hit for "Customize Touch Bar or Control Strip" but when I click on it, it takes me to Keyboard settings and still don't see any option for the Touch Bar settings. Tried restarting the mac and nothing...

Help me understand why the response to my post is from a different Apple Account than the original poster.

Are the two posts above that are not from me actually from two different people? Are they from the same person using two different Apple Accounts? If so, might one be an Administrator and the other not?
