Unable to add Epson ET-3950 printer to my MacBook Pro

Just got an Epson ET 3950. I can add the Epson Smart Panel on my iPhone and iPad to control the printer, but I can’t add it to my MacBook Pro. Does that mean I won’t be able to control all its features with my MacBook?

<< So, configure it, as instructed by Google AI: >>

you can also use a B-52 bomber to crack nuts, but that is not a very good use.

--------

Epson reports that is printer is supported by MacOS 10.9.5 through MacOS 10.15 (so no 64-bit MacOS support).

But since it is an AirPrint printer, so all you need on the Mac is to Add-a-Printer as an AirPrint printer, and most printing features will work for you.

Your ET 3950 is supported on all versions of macOS from OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) all the way up to and including macOS 15 (Sequoia). It may even work on macOS 26 (Tahoe) although Epson has not yet officially updated the driver for Tahoe.

Smart Panel is an iOS/Android app ... it is not available on Macs. But you should still be able to control the ET3950 using it on your iPhone & iPad for printing/scanning with your iOS devices.

Just install the Epson ET 3950 drivers & apps for your Mac to use it for printing & scanning with your Mac. The Mac driver includes support for printing & scanning including the Epson Scan2 Utility & ScanSmart.

Well, I got the printer working on both of our MacBooks. Apparently, Macs have their way of controlling printers so all that was needed was to add the printer. Pretty simple. So why doesn’t Epson say that from the start? Thanks for all the help.

Because if you are using AirPrint, you don’t usually need to deal with printer vendor drivers for printing or (often) for scanning.

For printers with AirPrint, macOS can use vendor drivers and AirPrint.

For iOS and iPadOS, you can use AirPrint, or a separately-installed vendor printing app.

For feedback to Epson (“so why…”), you will want to send that to Epson.

Epson is not my preferred printer vendor choice, given their docs and their website disorganization, among other details.

As for this app, it is not available for a Mac. So, configure it, as instructed by Google AI:
