Why are my walk sessions using airpod pro 3 not filling my rings?

Recently bought the AirPods pro 3s for the heart rare sensor. I’ve gone on 4 walking sessions using just my AirPods and not my watch. It records the session fine but for some reason it doesn’t get included in my daily rings? Anyone else seen this issue ?
