Ipod not showing up in Itunes

I tried downloading Apple Device Manager as one of the suggestions was to download that. Still no ipod showing up in Itunes. I uninstalled Apple Device Manager as someone else recommended that. Still no Ipod showing up in Itunes. I had no problems two months ago. Please help. I bought a new cord today. It's NOT a certified Apple cord. Thank you.
