Wha do I do when I delete the whole iMovie library

I was shocked to find out that 200 GB was being used up by my iMovie library and I thought that it was just some of my movies I had created so I deleted it and now I can’t make any more videos. What do I do?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 26.0

Hi,

When you reopen iMovie it should open in a new blank library. If not, reopen as you hold down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. That will cause iMovie tol open in a new blank library. Neither procedure will recover the data that you deleted.

Most people that work a lot with videos keep their iMovie libraries on a separate external drive to avoid the space problem.
