New AirPods are not connecting to find my

I’ve lost a set of AirPod recently, and I just bought a set of new ones. They didn’t seem to be connecting to find my, I tired connecting it to “Add other item”. It is connecting but midway it said that it’s not in range. I placed the AirPods also on top of my phone. I also tried finding ways online on how to connect it. But none of them seemed to work. Is there any other way to connect it or pop up in find my?
