Apple ID password reset not effective on login

After a lot of waiting apple finally allowed me to reset the apple password I supposedly forgot, anyway that was yesterday evening, got an email advising "has been successfully reset",

went to login today and apple says either your username or password is incorrect, kinda hard to believe after taking about 2 weeks to reset it

log in to apple id using the username and password that was confirmed successful yesterday

Full story, I have an old ipad that was setup using my Dads apple ID, I have access to all his tech stuff anyway/passwords etc as I have set them up for him. Dad doesnt use the ipad anymore as I got him a newer iphone so I was going to use it. Copied all his photos etc to backup, then thought ill just reset the ipad and set it up under my apple id. Well then it wanted his username and password to unlock, easy I thought, but then consistently told me I had the wrong password or username, I couldnt remeber changing it and he certainly didnt. Went to reset his password, even on his own iphone wouldnt let me and took several weeks. yesterday it let me reset his password, today its telling me again the username or password is wrong
