Unable to Remove Files that is link to iCloud on Macbook

Seems like I might have crashed something—when I try to delete files from the Trash or a folder synced to iCloud, it gets stuck on the “Items to Delete” popup and doesn’t progress. Has anyone encountered this issue before or knows how to resolve it? Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
