Some applications vanish about an hour after I start them

When I start my daily work, I need to run several applications, for example,

  • Docker Desktop
  • DBeaver (to track database table contents)
  • Microsoft Teams (to communicate with my teammates)

It’s very annoying when I notice that my database server is throwing a lot of errors because it can’t reach the database, which was run in Docker Desktop. The issue happens because Docker Desktop has unexpectedly stopped or disappeared. I then have to start it again manually — clicking the Docker Desktop icon and restarting the containers. I often have to do this several times a day.

How can I prevent Docker Desktop (or any running app) from stopping or closing automatically?

(I’m using a MacBook Pro M3 with the latest macOS and two external monitors.)

You cannot prevent something from stopping....many things can cause things to stop running.

You need to focus on being notified about the item no longer running and/or checking to make sure the app is still running....if it is not running, then have it start again. I was experimenting with Launch Daemons/Agents which can relaunch the item if it stops running, IIRC. And no, I don't recall how I was doing this since I was only experimenting with it a year ago, but I was only focused on having a script run as soon as the Mac was powered on even after an unexpected shutdown (Login Item was not good enough).
