iPhone 17 pro max silver UBC C connector is loose on a new phone

I recently purchased an iPhone 17 Pro Max (Silver, USB-C), and I’m experiencing a couple of issues that I hope you can assist with:

The USB-C connector seems to be loose, causing intermittent charging and data connection.

I'm noticing occasional lag on the screen, which is unexpected for a brand-new device.

I'm hesitant to opt for an Express Replacement since it often involves receiving a refurbished unit. Given that my device is only a few days old, I believe a brand-new replacement would be more appropriate.

Additionally, I’ve already invested in Zagg screen and camera protectors, which would be wasted if the device is replaced without also covering these accessories.

I would really appreciate guidance on how to proceed. Ideally, I’d like a full replacement with a new device and equivalent screen/camera protectors, considering how recently the phone was purchased.

You have 14 days from date of purchase to return the phone for full refund (it needs to be returned in the original box with the accessories, like the cable). Apple won't reimburse you for the screen protector or lens protectors. But if it's having an issue as you describe, I'd return it and get a brand new iPhone.

Take it in to an Apple Store or where you purchased it for warranty service. It will be up to Apple to give you a refurbished iPhone or not. You really have no choice.

Refurbished phones have been checked through an through so they are often BETTER than new.

Apple has to replace the faulty phone with WORKING phone. It can be new OR refurbished.

I just came from the Lincoln park store in Chicago; spoke to the manager and that is a possibility to return it. However, the only issue its not in stock and I have to wait for a while.
Manager, said he will be ok to return it if it goes over the 14 days; I am happy with that. Thank you all for the advice.

Great. Glad it worked out as you managed to return it before the 14 days cut off date. That is what matters irrelevant of the current stock. Thanks for reporting back.

I’m confident that you’ll be successful in your efforts with Apple.

A question apparently not yet asked so-far in this thread …

was this “looseness” consistent when using multiple USB-C cables?

I ask as generally all of the moving / spring-loaded / retention force-inducing parts of a USB-C connection are contained in the cable’s connector.

That said, a defect of the in-phone receptacle — while unusual for Apple — would not seem that surprising in an early-production unit.
