AirTags did not transfer to new iPhone

After transferring all of my data to the new iPhone 17 Pro Max from my iPhone 15 Pro Max. None of my AirTags appeared in my FindMy app even 24 hours later.

Both my old and new iPhone are on the same Apple account, and my Mac still has my AirTags present.

Things I tried to fix this:

• Deleting and reinstalling FindMy
• Resetting network settings

So naturally, I opened a support case. The Apple iMessage text support person informed me that I needed to reset and re pair all of my AirTags. I have 6 of them on my account. This is an unreasonable solution due to my AirTags still showing on my Mac and account in general.

So then the chat representative escalated my case, and minutes later I got a phone call from Apple.

The nice lady informed me that

1.) AirTags do not transfer from iPhone to iPhone. As that iPhones Bluetooth is linked to my old iPhone and even asked me if I still had my old iPhone.

2.) She was very confused how could an AirTag connect if it was far away such as 300 miles (like one on a vehicle I own). I then had to explain to her that AirTags operate in a distributed way with all iPhones contributing to the AirTag network.

I know for a fact that AirTags are tied to an Apple account and do in fact transfer phones, as demonstrated by my Mac’s ability to see them. And previous iPhone transfers have always moved my AirTags over.

Additionally, my family members whom I have shared my AirTags with can see and interact with them just fine.

I ended the phone call without a resolution and she was unwilling to explore the issue any further. Following the phone call she sent me an Apple email on how to reset my AirTags.

I have always had a fantastic experience with Apple support, but the two individuals whom attempted to help me tonight suffer from a lack of training or care to help, or maybe both.

For any Apple person who wants to investigate this and possibly provide professional development to some support representatives. my case ID was 10********04

as for me, I still have 6 missing AirTags that are clearly visible on my account, just not visible on my device.
