Scheduled startup not working on macOs Tahoe

I have recently upgraded from an older operating system that still had the energy saver function in the system preferences. I am used to arriving at work with my computer started up, this saves me a few valuable minutes and avoids boring waiting time. Looking at the forums, I found the instructions for adding the following command to the terminal:

'sudo pmset repeat wakeorpoweron MTWRF 08:50:00'

But it doesn't work. I also tried to do 'sudo pmset repeat cancel' first. Still, nothing. What am I doing wrong? I am not logging out of my session, and I am the only user. I read the suggestion to change the lock screen preference to never ask for a password after the screensaver comes on. But this also didn't help.

that’s a common one since macOS Tahoe quietly phased out the old Energy Saver scheduling UI.

The terminal command you used is fine, but it often fails when FileVault is enabled, because the system can’t complete the boot until the disk is unlocked manually. Either disable FileVault under System Settings > Privacy & Security > FileVault, or skip the startup scheduling and use OnyX instead, it still exposes that functionality cleanly. After running your pmset command, double-check it’s actually saved with pmset -g sched. If it’s blank, the schedule didn’t stick.
