Adobe Acrobat launching when I open pdfs despite not being my default pdf viewer

When I download a pdf. in Google Chrome, opening the pdf from the browser will launch Adobe Acrobat instead of Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge is my default pdf viewer, so I don't understand why Adobe Acrobat keeps launching. How can I stop Adobe Acrobat from launching when it isn't even my default pdf viewer?

MacBook Air, macOS 15.7

Some non-Apple browsers will use a helper application (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader) if it is installed. You can investigate that further in the Chrome browser settings…

As Kurt Lang has suggested, although web browsers can display PDFs, they do not have the same PDF support that one would find by opening the PDF natively in Adobe Acrobat Reader, or Apple's Preview.

Another why, would be your using Microsoft Edge on a Mac. There are more capable browsers available (e.g. Brave) if not Apple's provided Safari.
