Using an old iMac keyboard on a 2025 Macbook

I picked up a 2025 M5 MacBook Pro the other day to replace my 2015 iMac (which is still running fine!), but the keyboard from my iMac will not work on it either standalone or in clamshell mode with the laptop plugged it.

Will I need to pick up a newer keyboard?

The adapter was an Anker USB to USB-C that works on everything else, but after your query, I tried an Anker multiport adapter and it worked! (Typing on it now). Problem solved for now, although the multi-port adapter may be an issue when I get the case for the MacBook Pro...

Really appreciate the help!

for some reason the built in keyboard does not suit you...

if it were me I'd buy a new keyboard. I am sure the old keyboard does not have TouchID
