Battery drain issue after iOS 18.7.2 update

Hello Apple Support,

After updating my iPhone XR to iOS 18.7.2, I’ve noticed a major battery drain issue. The battery percentage drops quickly even when the phone is idle, and it sometimes gets warm during light use.

I’ve already checked background apps and battery settings, but the issue remains. Please look into this and let me know if there’s any fix or upcoming update to resolve it.

Thanks,

Fozle

Just posting this comment cost me 2% of battery.

Post a screenshot of what you see at Settings > Battery with the green battery graph using the last 24 hours option and the top apps consuming your battery. Some apps have background activity that will consume your battery even when they are not being used. If you updated on the day 18.7.2 was released, then you are just now at the 5 day mark where you should be seeing the file indexing and photo optimization being completed after the update. If Home & Lock Screen is showing up in that screen shot then that is a good indication that the background indexing is still going on.

Little confused when you say your Phone and Battery are new, but say that your Battery Health is 92%. That just brings up more questions:

  • What model of phone do you have?
  • Where did you purchase it?
  • Did you replace the Battery at Apple/Authorized Apple Service Provider, or was that done someplace else?
  • Was the phone purchased as refurbished/used where you have no idea if it is a genuine Battery?

Right, but that still doesn't explain the battery drain because I have people using the same META apps on their phones (iPhone 12 and iPhone 12mini) with previous versions of the iOS (18.6.2 and 18.7.1) and they update their apps constantly and they don't have the same battery drain problem as I have had with iOS 18.7.2 and iOS 26 (on my other device). So, that isn't the only explanation.

The phone was draining battery even when instagram was uninstalled. I reinstalled it and the drain became only slightly worse (the only META app that I use more frequently, I don't use WhatsApp as much as I use Signal instead).

Marc we both tell you the same thing. I had the same versions of meta apps with iOS 18.6.2 and the same with ios 18.7.1. I updated them after I noticed excessive battery drain with ios 18.7.1. The battery drain is worse with ios 18.7.2. What is the point on deleting meta apps and use them on safari? Of course the battery will be better because it is not pleasant to use instagram on safari. What is the point having an iPhone without whatsapp? You do not provide any specific solution. Only supporting Apple

Yes I’m using an iPhone 15 pro - my battery health dropped 2% in a week after I did this update and I’ve noticed my phones screen is super unresponsive and laggy and my phone is now heating up a lot more and a lot hotter. It’s in a case toy case and never gets anywhere near water or dust or anything. I’ve tried to reach out to Apple for lots of different issues that I have had but the Service just isn’t there anymore unfortunately.
