Mac keyboard not working after Tahoe software update

———-

Troubleshooting Keyboard Keys:

I. Reset the SMC and NVRAM using and external keyboard...

  • (Applies to Intel-based Macs only)Sometimes changes(i.e. updates) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for USB Ports/Keyboard) become manipulated, technically.  So, reset both on your Mac.
  • Use An External Keyboard: It doesn't have to be Apple brand. You might need this adapter: USB-C to USB A Adapter - Apple

II. Reinstalling the macOS:

If the resets are of no success, then reinstall the macOS. If you reinstall the macOS, nothing would be deleted. All intended, original files and apps that came on your macOS would be reinstalled. It’s all about keeping your system files intact.

1. First, Create a Time Machine backup:

Important: Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac, so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall.

2. Reinstall the macOS:

Troubleshooting Displays:

A. Verify this is Seen WHEN Plugged in:

If it is not working for 30 minutes, then I recommend seeing if you can connect another display such as your iPhone or a projector, alongside this one. Than, see if it is seen, right after your plug it in, through use of the macOS.

  1. Hold Down: the option key
  2. Click: Apple menu
  3. Select: System Information
  4. Expand: Hardware (if applicable)
  5. Click: Graphic/Display
  6. Look for: this display

and...

B. Contact an AASP:

Being so old of a device, if not covered by AppleCare, contact an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider). See what services that offer for this.

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the Mac
