Finder windows corrupted since Tahoe

I updated to Tahoe this morning and now despite two reboots and restarting finder and apps, every time I save a file or try open a file from any app the finder window extends across the whole screen and can not be resized and remains blank, the only way to get out of it is to hit Esc but I can not save or open files now????? I just tried now to attach a screenshot but the same thing happened so I had to drag the image off my desktop into this window - I am on deadline PLEASE HELP

Shorten the name of MAVERIC’<<<… and any other folder that shows up in the Recently used folders. The Recent folders list cannot shorten the folder names and thus expands the window to accommodate the full name.

The quickest workaround is to force-quit Finder, then delete its saved state, open Terminal and run

rm -rf ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/com.apple.finder.savedState

then restart Finder with killall Finder.

If that doesn’t help, try logging into a new temporary user account, if file dialogs work there, the issue’s user-profile specific, so deleting Finder preferences (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist) should fix it.

If it’s system-wide, reinstall the latest macOS Tahoe 15.x supplemental update, Apple’s already patched similar window rendering glitches in recent builds.

Thanks that seemed like a good idea but I even ejected the MAVERICK drive that had no effect and all the other names fit in fine buit still every time I save something this happens its unbelievably annoying

You need to look in the recently used, pop-up menu in the middle of the dialogue for oversized folder names, not the sidebar. I just mentioned the one I saw assuming it might possibly be in the recent used folder list.

just ejecting the drive will probably not remove it from the recently used folder list.

I DID IT!! Thank you iamshivam

I did not fully understand your instructions I must admit - but I wildly tried all of them in varying orders and after a killall it restarted and now its fixed!!! Here's the possible cause of the unkown cause - get ready for this, it's 100% true: My dog jumps up on my desk when I go away and tramps on my keyboard - he once sent a gibberish message to a the board of a prolific corporate jet manufacturer who were on a corporate chat I had open, he has altered settings in mail, changed drive filenames and filenames in general and caused untold and yet undiscovered damage, I forgot to remove my keybopard and mouse from the desk the day I updated to Tahoe and the iMac was definitely angled and the keybaord moved so he defintely went to town on the keys :) I dont know how he got it right (or wrong in this case) but I am glad it is fixed because the Mac was barely usable with that issue given how I work.
