I'm backing up my iPad to my mac, but I'd like to move the backup to an external drive to save space on my MacBook pro. Can I do that and then bring it back to the same place on my mac if I should ever need to restore the iPad?

The link explains what needs to be moved. Yes, as I at least implied if not stated directly, it’s OK to move it as long as you put it back exactly where it came from if you need to restore it.
thanks, but yes, that's what I found and read to find the backup. I'm trying to keep my MacBook pro lean, so can I move that backup to an external harddrive? Ideally I'd like to back up to an external, but I understand that's not possible. I'm thinking I could backup to the mac, move it, and only bring it back if I needed it.
You are correct, I restated my question, because I didn't think you understood the question. I have already backed up my iPad, and know where the backup is stored on my Mac, the question is whether it will be ok to move it to an external hard drive, and the link doesn't answer that question.
