Workout app in watchOS 10/11 became less user-friendly – missing features?

Hi everyone,

I noticed that since watchOS 10/11 the Workout app has changed in a way that feels less user-friendly compared to previous versions, and I want to check if others are experiencing the same issue.

The old Workout app had several helpful features:

• A clear workout list

• Workouts sorted by “recently used” or “frequently used”

• The ability to quickly start specific workouts

• Options to favorite or pin certain workout types

• Complications that linked directly to individual workouts

In watchOS 10/11, many of these functions seem to be removed:

• The workout list is only visible while swiping

• There is no “recently used” section anymore

• No way to favorite or rearrange workouts

• No complications for specific workout types

• The UI automatically opens a workout instead of showing the overview

The new design looks modern, but it’s much slower and less practical when trying to start the workouts I use most often. It feels like a step backward in terms of usability.

Is anyone else missing these features?

And does anyone know if Apple plans to bring them back?

Thanks!

Yes, Workout in watchOS 26 was made unusable by its significant redesign. It’s much harder to start a workout, and dumb changes like requiring you to confirm the type of workout goal each and every time, as well as smaller buttons to tap mean it’s easy for workouts to fail to run. The watchOS 11 version was much more usable and didn’t need these changes.

iOS 26 has its own UI problems, so staying with iOS 18 (and thus watchOS 11) is no tragedy, of course.

If you have already moved to watchOS 26, though, you are stuck with the terrible new Workout app.
