If your AirPods keep hopping between your Mac, iPhone, and iPad at the worst possible moments, it usually comes down to Apple’s “Automatic Switching” feature.

To try to resolve this:

  • On an iPhone or iPad, head into SettingsBluetooth, tap the little (i) next to your AirPods, and change Connect to This iPhone/iPad from Automatically to When Last Connected to This iPhone/iPad.
  • On a Mac, open System SettingsBluetooth, click Options beside your AirPods, and make the same adjustment there.

Once you flip that setting everywhere, the AirPods should stay put unless you manually switch them, giving you far more control and a lot fewer interruptions.
