Pausing AirPods Pro closes Music app on iPhone

Since the iPhone iOS26 update, pausing my AirPods Pro closes the music app. To restart playing I have to physically go into the music app and press play. I have disconnected and reconnected the AirPods as well as resetting them but nothing has helped. Any ideas? Thanks
